opening of the exhibition You Accommodated Me in Your Body
The exhibition You Accommodated Me in Your Body at the Prostora gallery will present contemporary painter and lyricist Lubomír Typlt. The opening will take place on Wednesday 23 April
From 24 April to 20 June, Prostora Gallery will present an exhibition of Lubomír Typlt's collection entitled You Accommodated Me in Your Body. The new exhibition will showcase works from the foreign and domestic scene by contemporary artists and will open with an opening on Wednesday, April 23 at 6 pm in the presence of the artist. Guided tours will take place during the duration of the exhibition.
The collection of large-format, expressive paintings by the renowned painter and lyricist Lubomír Typlt will feature Czech and international artists. The title You accommodated me in your body is the beginning of one of his texts for the WWW group and is intended to prepare the visitors for the experience of the exhibition: a confrontation with the exhibited paintings. Typlt collects selected works, mostly to support the work of male and female artists, often at the beginning of their careers. Another level is the artists who inspire him. "I often try to support a personality who is not yet fully known and respected. Of course, this often entails the risk that they won't break through, so to speak, and their fame might even fade away. Nevertheless, I still feel that I have tried to help the painter or artist in some way. I know myself how important this collector support is for artists. Especially when they are still struggling to exist. Fortunately, I haven't been wrong too many times. I myself am all the more pleased that I have often discovered the potential at the beginning of the careers of people who have actually succeeded."
The exhibition will present the following artists: Aryz, Lovis Corinth, Martin Gerboc, Remus Grecu, Simone Haack, Andrea Lehmann, Matěj Macháček, Justin Mortimer, Jiří Načeradský, Jiří Petrbok, Ivan Pinkava, Miroslav Polách, Jan Poupě, Zbyněk Sedlecký, Norbert Stefan, Adam Štech, Alexander Tinei, Annemari Vardanyan, Jan Vytiska.
Lubomír Typlt (1975) graduated not only from the Czech art schools, but also from the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, where he studied with Markus Lüpertz, Gerhard Merz and other artists. Typlt's painting is characterized by two main directions - critically oriented symbolic figuration and structural (mechanical) abstraction with elements of utopia. In recent works, the artist synthesizes both poles on a common surface, resulting in a visually stimulating encounter between two distinct worlds of expression, which is also reflected in the installations. Typlt connects older themes and creates new links of meaning by confronting them. Formally, his work is characterized as expressive large-scale figuration with a strong message of content. He continues the legacy of the so-called Czech grotesque, an artistic movement typical of the 1970s, while further developing his expression with new approaches and themes. He creates "allegorised" characters of individuals on the border of seriousness and ridiculousness. Typlt's work is characterised by a specific contrasting and varied colour scheme. On his canvases he develops a distinctive myth of the human individual with a gestural painterly vividness and spontaneity. Lubomír Typlt od roku 1998 samostatně vystavuje v Čechách i v zahraničí. Vedle malířství se věnuje i psaní textů pro hudební projekt WWW.
Prostora is a gallery in the centre of Vinohrady, behind which is the architect Marcela Steinbachová, founder of the Skupina studio, the KRUH association and director of its activities (lecture series on architecture, the Architecture Day festival and the Film and Architecture festival, publishing publications). The space is located in the former telephone exchange at 9 Blanická Street above náměstí Míru, on the first floor, and is the eighth collection of visual artists. The name of the gallery is based on a synonym of the more commonly used word space, but space defines a more defined, bounded environment, in this case an exhibition space. Prostora's focus in the past and current year has been on presenting collections by contemporary artists.
